Both sides strive to the middle in order to win elections. McCain had the best advantage, and Republicans nominated the right guy. It just happened that Democrats nominated someone better. McCain did the right thing by picking Palin, but it just wasn't good enough.

McCain was about as moderate as you can get for a republican and he got creamed because of it. If you are a moderate conservative, you risk losing support from your base and there is little to no chance of a moderate from the left voting for you when they can vote for someone who is far left. It's a lose lose situation. In an ideal situation, both sides would present moderate candidates who would listen to both sides of an issue, but hard left people can only be countered by hard right people

Rachel MADCOW is joke & NOT a journalist. She deals in half-truths & is a VERY biased liberal who uses sarcasm, cynicism, & smirks a "feigned concerned look" to sway public opinion against conservatives. You NEVER get the whole truth on her show as she's flat dishonest! The only group she hates more than conservatives are Christians. Take what she says & cut it in-half & only believe 1/10th of that. Tune in elsewhere to get ALL the facts & BOTH sides of a story. MSNBC is whacked to the max.

Rachel Maddow is tabloid 'journalism'. Her smirks and endless 'glennBeck' style sarcasm destroy her credibility. Fools think this is real journalism and the ones who do believe those idiotic magazine cover stories about Brad and Angie while waiting at grocery store checkouts.

God, she is obsessed with saying she's 24 - she does it like 7 times during every interview I've seen her in. But she's alright. She's doing an absolutely thankless job right now, trying to speak some modicum of common sense to the GOP, which has descended into the depths of insanity.
